If you're not sure what to expect, I'd suggest researching the current events or shows beforehand. They can have themed nights, and it’s a bummer to miss out on something cool.
My advice is to bring some cash with you. Credit cards aren't accepted everywhere so having some local currency on hand makes things way easier trust me.
I think arriving around 10 PM is the sweet spot. The crowds start to pick up, which makes the atmosphere more lively, and you get a chance to see the performances when they really get going.
