if you're a beginner i suggest booking a private lesson. i went with a group class and it was hard to get personal attention. totally worth the extra cash for one-on-one time.

I recommend checking the surf conditions in advance. I didn't do that, and my first session had terrible waves for beginners. Ask the staff, they're super helpful!
