My advice is to bring a picnic! There are nice spots to chill out, and it's a great way to save on food while enjoying the scenery.
I suggest checking out the small art exhibits scattered around; they were a pleasant surprise! I nearly missed them because I was too focused on the gardens.
I recommend visiting in the morning, around 10 AM, to catch the gardens just as they open and avoid the crowd. The light is beautiful then too.
