Definitely plan your visit for around 8 AM or after 4 PM to avoid the heat and crowds. Trust me, the views are just as stunning without the midday sun baking you.
If you can, check out the visitor center first. You’ll gain some really interesting context about the dam that makes seeing it much cooler – I learned stuff I didn't expect!
Don’t forget your camera! The views from the lookout are incredible, but also consider getting down to the dam for some unique angles. It's a short walk down.
