If you have time, check out the walk between the hot springs at night... It's quiet and beautiful, but I regret not bringing a light jacket – it got chilly

My advice is to bring your own towels and toiletries. The rentals can be a bit pricey at some ryokans, and you might feel more comfortable with your own stuff.
