I recommend hitting the pans around sunrise, like 6 AM, for the best colors and cooler temps. Seriously, it's magical and you won't melt! I saw soooo many fantastic photos everyone else took around that time.

I think renting a 4x4 vehicle is a must. The salt pans can be tricky, and I got stuck in a soft patch once. Having a solid ride will save you time and headache exploring the vast area without hiccups.

My advice is to bring snacks and water from Maun, I ended up paying way too much for basics at the campsites. Trust me, you'll save a few bucks for more fun activities if you stock up before you go!
