It can get super windy up there, so I suggest bringing a light jacket. I almost froze while waiting for the evening lighting ceremony – totally worth it though!
Bring a good pair of walking shoes. The trails are gorgeous, but I totally regretted wearing flip flops! You'll want to explore beyond the monument.
If you can, visit early in the morning, around 7 AM. The morning light is beautiful for photos and there are fewer crowds – I totally loved the peace before it got busy!
