I suggest packing some snacks and drinks. The dive trips can get long, and there's not much provided. Better to be prepared than get hungry out there!

I recommend going with a dive instructor that knows the local spots well. My dive buddy and I went with a rookie one time, and it was a bummer not hitting the best reefs

Definitely check out the equipment before you head out. I found some gear not fitting right, and it kinda threw me off. A quick check can save you some frustration.
