My advice is to visit the Palace on a weekday if you can. I went on a Saturday, and it was packed! The crowds really made it hard to enjoy the art and architecture.

I think enjoying a picnic in the gardens is a great idea. I didn't know and just rushed inside. It's a lovely place to relax and take in the beauty of the palace before or after your visit!

I recommend booking your tickets online ahead of time to skip the long lines. I wasted about 30 minutes waiting in line because I didn't! Trust me, you don't want to start your visit that way.
