I'd suggest bringing your own gear if you can; the rentals can add up! However, if you do rent, definitely book ahead to save time and money on your trip.
My advice is to avoid weekend mornings if possible. I skied on a Saturday at 9 AM and it was a mad house! Go on a weekday or around lunch for way less crowds.
I think getting an afternoon lift ticket can be a total steal. I went at 1 PM and enjoyed the slopes almost free of waiting, plus the views were just stunning!
