I suggest getting there around 7 PM if you want to find a decent spot without too much crowd... It fills up fast later on, especially on live music nights!
I think it's worth it to pay a little extra for snacks. The platter we ordered was huge and perfect to share quite filling for two.
If you're planning to grab a bite, maybe wait until after 8 PM for food. That's when the kitchen slows down and the staff give you more attention.
