If you got kids with you, bring along some snacks or drinks. There isn't a ton of places to grab something quick at the castle, and the kids will get hungry mid-exploration. Trust me, it saved our day!
If you're going in the summer, try to visit on a weekday to avoid the crowds. I went on a Saturday, and it was super busy! You'll have more time to explore the castle and take great photos without too many people in the way.
I suggest checking out the little shops in the castle grounds after your visit. They have neat souvenirs that you won't find elsewhere, and they were a bit cheaper than stuff in the main tourist shops in Sozopol
