Joaquina Beach

Don’t forget your sunscreen! I ended up way too sunburned. Even if it’s cloudy, the sun can sneak up on you. Reapply every couple of hours just to be safe.

My advice is to bring your own snacks and drinks. Beachside cafes can be pricey and while the food is great it's nice to save some cash and munch on what you love.

I recommend hitting the beach early, around 7 AM, to snag a good spot and enjoy the sunrise. It gets crowded fast, and the morning vibe is just unbeatable!
Hike Trilha do Morro das Aranhas

Wear good hiking shoes, not flip flops... I saw a lot of people struggling with slippery rocks in sandals, and let me tell you, it wasn't pretty... I learned my lesson the hard way

Start your hike early around 7 am to beat the heat and the crowds. The sunrise views from the top are totally worth it, and you’ll have the trail mostly to yourself

Bring plenty of water and snacks! The trail can be more demanding than it looks, so trust me, you'll need the extra energy. I ran out of water too soon and wished I'd packed more.

Don't forget your camera! There are some stunning viewpoints along the way. I captured some pretty awesome shots, but I kinda wished I had a better zoom lens for those faraway views.
Brava Beach

Parking can be a hassle; I found a spot pretty far away. So save some time and consider taking a taxi or rideshare if you can. It's worth it!

Bring cash! Some of the beach bars don’t take cards and it’s often easier for tips. A refreshing coconut water is a must after all that sun!

I suggest wearing reef shoes or sandals because the sand can be super hot, especially in the afternoon. My feet were burning by about noon, and I regretted not packing them!

If you’re planning to surf, try to hit the waves early around 7 am when the wind is calmer and the water is less crowded. I had the best time catching some great waves then!
Mole Beach

I think sunset is magical at Mole Beach, so don’t miss it. Grab a beer, relax, and enjoy the colors, but be careful of the sandflies; they bite!

Bring your own snacks and drinks instead of buying from the kiosks. I found the prices were a bit steep, and packing a picnic is way more fun!
Matadeiro Beach

Skip the overpriced beach bars and pack your own snacks. There are picnic tables near the beach, and it’s way more relaxing to chill with your own food while enjoying the view!

I recommend getting to Matadeiro Beach early, around 8 AM, to snag a good parking spot and enjoy a quieter beach vibe before the crowds roll in. Trust me, it makes a huge difference!
If you're planning to surf, check out local surf schools for affordable lessons. I found a great one that didn't break the bank and really helped me catch some nice waves!

Beware of the tides, as they can change quickly. I suggest checking a tide chart ahead of time, so you can enjoy the beach without worrying about getting stranded!
