Red Beach

I learned the hard way to avoid the public restrooms if you can. They can get pretty gross, so maybe consider a nearby café if you need to go!

If you’re looking for a place to eat, check out the local kiosks. They have amazing seafood and it's much cheaper than the restaurants on the main strip

I recommend hitting the beach early, around 8 am. It’s way less crowded and you can snag a good spot. Plus, the morning sun feels so nice!

I suggest bringing a beach umbrella or rent one. The sun can be harsh, and trust me, you don’t wanna end up roasted by midday!
Leme Beach

If you want to soak up some sun without the crowd, head to the left side of the beach towards the Leme Stone. It’s way less crowded and super picturesque!

I recommend renting a beach chair and umbrella. It’s worth it for comfort, and we found it was about R$30 for the day. Just make sure to bargain a little.

If you’re into light workouts, the beach pathway is perfect for jogging or walking. It’s a nice way to see the area and burn off those caipirinhas!

Beware of the beach vendors! Some are really pushy, and it can be a bit overwhelming. Just say 'no, obrigado' with a smile if you’re not interested.
Leblon Beach

Don't miss out on the evening ambiance around 5 PM when the beach gets quieter and the sunset is just stunning! It's a perfect time for photos.

Bargain a little when renting chairs or umbrellas! I didn't negotiate and ended up paying way more than I should have. Just ask, and you might get a better deal

I recommend avoiding the touristy restaurants directly on the beach; they’re pricier. Walk a few blocks back to find amazing and authentic local eateries!

If you're planning to sunbathe, be sure to set up your towel as early as 9 AM. By noon, finding a spot can be a real challenge!
Barra de Guaratiba

I think renting a kayak or paddleboard is a must. Explore the coastline and you might even see some cool wildlife. Just double-check the rental prices so you’re not getting ripped off!

My advice is to arrive before 10 AM if you want to snag a good spot on the beach. It gets really crowded by noon, and believe me, finding a clean patch of sand can be tough!
I recommend checking out the local food spots before hitting the beach. The seafood is super fresh and you can grab a nice meal without breaking the bank. Just ask locals for their favorites!
Joatinga Beach

When you get to the beach, look for the easier path to walk down. I tried a rocky shortcut which made me lose balance and almost fall! Stick to the main trail—it’s way safer.

Don't forget your sunscreen! The sun can be really intense, especially in the afternoon. I regretted not applying more after a couple of hours. My back was sore the next day.

I recommend staying till sunset; the views are incredible. I took some photos and they turned out amazing. It’s a perfect way to end your day there
Copacabana Beach

If you're planning to hit the beach I recommend bringing your own snacks and drinks. Prices at the kiosks can be pricey and it's super easy to find a nice spot to chill with your own stuff.
Arpoador Beach
I suggest visiting Arpoador Beach around 5 PM for the best sunset views. The vibe is magical, and it’s less crowded then. You won’t regret it!

If you want to try surfing, look for a local instructor instead of the beach rentals—it's often cheaper and you get a more personalized lesson with a friendly local
Urca Beach

My advice is to get there by public transport if you can. Parking is a nightmare and super expensive. Bus stops are close, and the view during the ride is worth it!

I recommend heading to Urca Beach around 4 PM. The sun is less harsh then, and you get a beautiful golden hour vibe for pictures. Plus, it’s less crowded, so you can really relax.
Secret Beach
I think bringing a portable speaker for some music would be great. It's pretty chill, and it adds to the vibe. Just don't crank it up too loud!

I suggest packing some snacks and drinks, as there's not much around the beach. I spent a bit more on overpriced food and drinks when I could've saved some cash.

I recommend visiting around 9 AM. The beach is less crowded in the morning, which makes it way more enjoyable. Plus, you get better pics with the morning light!
Secreto Beach

Check the tide times before you go. The beach can disappear when the tide is high, and you don’t want to miss out!

If you want to dive or snorkel, I suggest bringing your own gear, as rentals nearby can be limited and pricey.
