If you’re into photography, golden hour right before sunset is just magnificent here. The lighting makes the statues pop beautifully.
Check the scheduled events before you go. Sometimes they have free concerts or activities which can add a fun vibe to your visit.

Central Market
Basilica of St. Stephen
Citadel
Make sure to bring water and snacks. The kiosks can be pricey and I ended up paying too much for a bottle of water. Just pack a little picnic!
Consider taking the bus or tram to save on parking fees. I spent a fortune on parking – the public transport is super convenient and way cheaper!
While exploring, check out the little trails on the hill. I stumbled onto some hidden spots that gave amazing views of the city and they weren’t crowded at all!
I highly recommend visiting in the early morning around 8 AM. The light is magical for photos and there are way less people around. Trust me, you’ll appreciate the peaceful vibe!
Fountain of Margaret Island
Definitely try to visit the fountain on a weekday afternoon to avoid the weekend crowds. I went on Saturday, and it got pretty packed. Midweek, the vibe is so much more relaxed!
I think walking around Margaret Island after visiting the fountain is a highlight. I rushed off too quickly, but there's so much beautiful nature and paths to explore, it's worth extra time.
I suggest checking the water show schedule before you go. I thought it would be happening all day, but I missed some amazing performances because I didn’t plan around the times!
My advice is to grab a gelato from the nearby vendors. It’s super refreshing, especially if you're spending time walking around the island. Plus, a treat while chilling by the fountain is a must!
The Great Synagogue
Check out the kosher café inside the complex. I grabbed a snack and a drink there – it was delicious and I've heard it's quite reasonably priced for Budapest!
Don't miss the beautiful garden and the Holocaust memorial behind the synagogue. It's a quiet spot to reflect and it felt like a hidden gem during my visit.
I suggest wearing comfortable shoes. There’s a lot of walking, both inside and around the synagogue, and I totally regretted my choice of footwear!
