I recommend renting your gear in advance to avoid the lines, especially on weekends. I waited too long and ended up missing the first hour of snowboarding.

My advice is to take a private lesson if you're a newbie. I did a group lesson and felt lost at times; the personal attention really speeds up the learning process.
