Kyoto Railway Museum

Check the schedule for train rides and special exhibitions before you go. I missed out on a cool steam train experience because I didn't look ahead!

The museum does have some interactive exhibits, but some are not as engaging as you'd hope. Focus on the classic trains and historical displays instead for a more satisfying experience!

Take your time in the outdoor area—there are some beautiful displays and photo ops. I rushed through it but ended up wishing I had stayed longer to appreciate everything!

Try visiting on a weekday, preferably Tuesday or Wednesday, to avoid the bigger crowds. I found it way more enjoyable with less waiting time for exhibits!
National Museum of Kyoto

Grab a snack at the museum café; their mochi is delicious! It’s a nice break, and you can refuel before heading back to explore more of the museum.

I suggest buying your tickets online in advance. It saved me some time waiting in line, and trust me, it gets busy on weekends

Plan to visit on a weekday, especially in the morning around 10 AM. The crowd was definitely thinner, and I could enjoy the exhibits without feeling rushed.

Don't miss the special exhibitions! I accidentally skipped one that had some incredible artifacts. Check ahead for what's on display during your visit.
Kyoto International Manga Museum

I recommend checking out their special events or exhibitions online before your visit. I stumbled upon one that was ending the day I came, and it would’ve been great to plan around that!

i suggest setting aside at least 2-3 hours. i thought i’d whip through in an hour, but i got lost in so many amazing titles. time flies!
National Museum of Contemporary Art

I suggest grabbing lunch at the café there—it's pretty affordable and the view is nice! I think it really sets the mood for exploring after a good meal.

My advice is to take your time on the 2nd floor; the installations are super unique and often overlooked. I almost missed some cool pieces because I was in a rush.
Municipal Museum of Art

i think it's a good idea to go on a weekday if you can. the crowds were way lighter than on weekends, which made it so much easier to enjoy the art. plus, you can take your time at each piece without feeling rushed.

My advice is to check out the gift shop! They had some really unique items and art-inspired souvenirs that you won’t find anywhere else. I still regret not grabbing a couple of those prints while I was there
