Guggenheim Museum Bilbao
My advice would be to grab a snack at the museum café but to eat outside. The views of the river and bridge are stunning, and it adds to the experience.
After your visit, stroll along the riverfront. It's a beautiful space to reflect on the art and soak in the surroundings – I loved that part!
If you're planning to explore the museum thoroughly, dedicate at least half a day. I didn’t realize how much there was to see and rushed through some exhibits
Viscay Bridge
Don’t skip the small museum on site. It's actually pretty interesting, and I found out a lot about the history of the bridge that I never would have known otherwise!
If you're planning to take the elevator up, remember to bring some change. I didn't and had to run around looking for a shop to get coins. Super annoying!
Grab a snack at the nearby cafes before heading up. There’s nothing up top, and I underestimated how hungry I’d get while admiring the views!
Definitely check the weather before you go. I got caught in a downpour while crossing, which made the experience a bit less enjoyable. Plus, you want to capture those great photos!
Ribera Market
I think exploring to the upper levels of the market is totally worth it. There are great views and unique shops up there. Don't just stick to the ground floor!
My advice is to try the local tapas at the bars inside. They’re delicious and a fun way to sample the Basque cuisine without breaking the bank - trust me, you won't regret it!
I suggest bringing cash. Some vendors don’t take cards, and it can be a pain to look for an ATM when you're hungry for some pinchos!
New Square
Azkuna Zentroa
I suggest getting a combo ticket if you're planning to check out the cinema or exhibitions too. It saves you some euros, and you can enjoy more of what Azkuna has to offer.
If you're into photography, the best time to snap pics is around noon when the light hits just right. Trust me, your Instagram will thank you!
If you want to delve into the architectural details, don't rush through it. Take your time—I felf like I missed some cool aspects just because I was moving too quickly!
My advice is to get a guidebook or download a city app to get some background on the architecture. It adds so much more to the experience and helps you appreciate the details!
Museum of Fine Arts
i recommend visiting on thursday or friday afternoon; it's usually less crowded, and you can enjoy the art without bumping into people. plus, the light in the galleries is beautiful during that time.
If you want to save some cash, check if they have any temporary free-entry days. My visit happened to coincide with one, and it was a nice surprise!
Campo Volantin
Cathedral of Bilbao
Basilica of Our Lady of Begonya
Puppy
I recommend checking out the nearby cafes for a quick coffee or treat before you head to the Guggenheim. It’s a nice spot to relax and enjoy the view of Puppy while saving some time for later.
I suggest hitting up Puppy early in the morning, like around 8 AM. The crowds are way lighter then, and you can snap some great pics without too many people photo-bombing you.
I think it’s worth waiting to see Puppy bloom in spring. The fresh color is stunning! Just be prepared for more tourists during that time—it gets busy around there
