I suggest wearing comfy shoes since you'll be walking around a lot on uneven ground... I made the mistake of wearing flip-flops and it was a no-go for exploring!

My advice is to bring some snacks and drinks with you. The park area around Vulcan is great for a picnic, and it saves you a bit of cash compared to buying food there.
