Robert W. Crown Memorial State Beach
I think it's smart to check the tide schedule before you go. We didn't, and ended up with less beach to explore at high tide, which was a bummer.
My advice is to hit the beach early, around 8 AM, to snag a good parking spot and enjoy some peaceful time before it gets crowded. Trust me, it's worth it!
Oakland Zoo
If you're bringing kids, don't miss the Zoo Train ride. Just be ready for a little wait but it's super fun, I was surprised how much my kids loved it!
My advice is to pack snacks or a light lunch. The food prices at the zoo can add up quickly, and you might get hungry before hitting all the exhibits!
Tilden Regional Park
I think you should download a trail map or use a hiking app before you go. The signage can be a bit confusing, and having a map saved me a ton of time wandering around.
Lake Merritt
My advice is to check out the local events calendar before your visit. I stumbled upon a small art fair that was going on – it added a fun twist to my stroll around the lake.
Dr. Aurelia Reinhardt Redwood Regional Park
Check out the main visitor center first for quick tips on the trails and don't miss the map – it'll save you from getting lost!
I recommend getting there early, around 8 AM, to snag parking and enjoy the quiet trails. It's way less crowded before the afternoon rush hits.
Joaquin Miller Park
I recommend packing a picnic! There are so many lovely spots to enjoy a meal. I brought snacks but wish I’d brought a proper lunch to enjoy more time outdoors.
Watch out for the poison oak! I didn’t pay attention and ended up itchy afterward. Now I always check the plant types before hitting the trails. Just be aware!
The University of California Botanical Garden
Temescal Regional Recreation Area
I suggest getting to Temescal Park early, around 8 AM, to snag a good parking spot and enjoy some peaceful moments before it gets crowded. Trust me, the sunrise over the lake is worth it!
