Lincoln Memorial

I recommend going early in the morning, like around 7 AM, to avoid the crowds. It’s way more peaceful, and you can take some amazing photos without random people in the background.

Bring a reusable water bottle. There are fountains around, and it’s a great way to stay hydrated without spending money on pricey bottled water.

Wear comfy shoes! You’ll probably end up walking a lot more than you think, especially if you decide to explore the nearby National Mall afterward

Check out the reflection pool in front of the memorial. It's super photogenic, especially around sunset, so don’t miss it for great Instagram shots.
World Vo II Memorial

Check for any events happening at the memorial or nearby before you go. You might catch a special ceremony or something unique!

Bring a water bottle! There aren't many places to buy drinks nearby, and you'll want to stay hydrated walking around.

Look for the hidden gems, like the inscriptions on the walls. I was blown away by how much meaning is packed into those details!

Wear comfortable shoes! The memorial is part of the National Mall, and you'll be doing a lot of walking to see everything in the area.
Washington Monument

I recommend going around 9 AM to beat the crowds. We got in quickly and had time for photos without a lot of people around. Trust me, it makes a huge difference!

It was a little chilly when I went, so I recommend checking the weather and dressing in layers. You don't wanna be freezing up there, especially waiting in line for tickets.

Consider bringing a water bottle! There's a water fountain nearby, and refilling it saves you cash on drinks, plus it keeps you hydrated for all that walking.

If you're short on time, get your tickets online to avoid the long queues. I thought I'd be fine just showing up, but the wait was a bummer!
The White House

Get your tickets at least 3 weeks in advance! Trust me, waiting till the last minute can be a bummer if your dates are booked. I wished I had planned ahead!

Look for free events or festivals in Lafayette Park. I stumbled upon one during my visit, and it was an awesome bonus to the trip!

If you can, try to be there by 8:30 AM. It's less crowded and you get the chance to snap some great photos without tons of people in the background.

Don't forget to grab some snacks at nearby cafes before heading in. Food options are super limited around The White House, and you might get hungry waiting for your tour.
Jefferson Memorial

I think it’s smart to bring a bottle of water and some snacks since there are no shops nearby. I learned it the hard way when I got super thirsty!

My advice is to explore the surrounding Tidal Basin paths. The cherry blossoms are beautiful and you can grab great views of the memorial from different angles. Don’t just rush in and out!

if you’re into history, check out the inscriptions inside, but i suggest taking a photo of them, so you can read more later. i missed a few because of the crowds!
Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception

Try to visit during the weekday; it’s way less crowded than weekends. I went on a Saturday and it felt rushed with all the people. Go around 10 AM on a Tuesday for a more peaceful experience.

Bring a light snack! I found myself starving after walking around for a few hours; there's not a ton of dining options nearby. A granola bar in your bag can be a lifesaver.

If you have time, attend a Mass service. It really added to my visit and the atmosphere was so serene. I suggest checking the schedule ahead of time.
Washington Cathedral

If you want great photos without people in your shots, aim for around 9 AM or just before closing. That’s when the light is perfect and the crowds are thinnest, trust me, I wished I had done this.

Bring a light sweater, even in summer. The Cathedral can be a bit chilly inside. I was fine for the most part, but I did see some people shivering during my visit!

I really recommend visiting on a weekday if you can. The crowd is way less, and you get more time to appreciate the stunning architecture without feeling rushed. I went on a Monday and loved it!
United States Capitol

If you're planning to take a guided tour, try to snag a spot around 10 AM. It was perfect for me since it wasn't too crowded, and I got to really soak in the info from the guide.

Check out the free exhibits in the Capitol Visitor Center before or after your tour. I almost missed them, and they were super interesting and informative!

If you're looking to save some cash, pack a water bottle and snacks. They don't allow food inside, but the Visitor Center has picnic areas where you can munch after your tour.

Wear comfy shoes! You'll be walking a lot more than you think, and I regretted my choice of footwear halfway through the visit. Trust me on this!
Library of Congress

i highly recommend going on a weekday if you can. the weekend crowds can be intense, and i really enjoyed a more relaxed atmosphere to soak in the stunning architecture.

Don’t forget to take the stairs to the Main Reading Room. The view is breathtaking! I almost missed it because I was focused on the elevators.
Pentagon

My advice is to wear comfy shoes! The Pentagon is huge and you’ll be doing a lot of walking. I wish I had worn sneakers instead of my cute sandals

If you want to save some bucks, grab lunch at the nearby Pentagon City Mall instead. The food courts have great options at affordable prices, way better than what’s offered on-site.
