If you're a fan of the Hope Diamond, try to visit that exhibit first. It's one of the most popular things, and going at the start of your visit saves you from a long wait later.

Consider spending a little extra for the IMAX tickets if you're into cool visuals. It was a great way to break up the museum experience and really worth the money!

Bring a reusable water bottle. There are fountains around, and it’s a great way to stay hydrated without spending money on pricey bottled water.

Wear comfy shoes! You’ll probably end up walking a lot more than you think, especially if you decide to explore the nearby National Mall afterward

Check out the reflection pool in front of the memorial. It's super photogenic, especially around sunset, so don’t miss it for great Instagram shots.
National Museum of African American History and Culture

I suggest getting there right when they open, around 10 AM, to avoid the crowds and get the best experience. Trust me, it gets packed fast!

My advice is to book timed entry tickets online in advance. I almost forgot and the line was super long! It saved me a ton of waiting time.

I think you should take advantage of the free audio guides if they’re available! They give you so much insight about each exhibit that totally enhances the experience.

Try to explore the museum's café for lunch. It’s a bit pricey, but the food is great and a nice break from all the walking around.

United States Holocaust Memorial Museum

Remember to bring some water, but also keep in mind that there's a café inside. I was surprised by the reasonable prices – just like regular cafes, plus the coffee was pretty good!

My advice is to take the time for the short films they have in some of the exhibits. I initially thought I'd skip them, but they really enhanced my understanding of everything and only took a few minutes.

Don't skip the small exhibits on the upper floors. I honestly almost did, thinking they wouldn’t be worth my time, but they were some of the most impactful parts of my visit.

If you can, try going on a weekday morning like 10 AM. It was way less crowded then, and I could take my time reading everything without feeling rushed
National Gallery of Art

Start your visit right at 10 AM when they open. The earlier you get there, the fewer crowds you'll face, and you can really take your time with the art. I made the mistake of going later and it got super packed!

Take advantage of the free audio guides available! They really enhanced my experience and provided cool insights I wouldn't have caught just walking around. You can download them right on your phone!

Don't miss the East Building! The modern art is amazing and often overlooked by first-timers. It's totally worth the extra time and it's less crowded than the West Building.

If you're on a budget, grab lunch at a nearby deli instead of the café inside... You'll save a ton and still get some great food without missing any art time
World Vo II Memorial

Check for any events happening at the memorial or nearby before you go. You might catch a special ceremony or something unique!

It was a little chilly when I went, so I recommend checking the weather and dressing in layers. You don't wanna be freezing up there, especially waiting in line for tickets.

Consider bringing a water bottle! There's a water fountain nearby, and refilling it saves you cash on drinks, plus it keeps you hydrated for all that walking.

If you're short on time, get your tickets online to avoid the long queues. I thought I'd be fine just showing up, but the wait was a bummer!
National Portrait Gallery

I suggest visiting on a Thursday or Friday evening. They have extended hours, and it was way less crowded, which made it easier to really enjoy the art!

Try to plan around lunchtime. The museum’s café has some pretty good options, but it gets super busy. If you can, grab a snack before noon to beat the rush.

My advice is to give yourself at least three hours. There’s so much to see – I ended up rushing through the last galleries because I didn't plan enough time.

Keep an eye out for free events. I stumbled upon an artist talk that was fantastic and totally free. Just check the schedule when you arrive!
Renwick Gallery

Check out their free programs or exhibitions! I stumbled upon a pop-up event during my visit that was so worth it and didn't cost a thing.
