The Great Wall of China
Terracotta Army
My advice is to spend some time in the museum's exhibition hall before exploring the pits. It sets the scene and helps you appreciate the history behind the Terracotta Army way better
I suggest taking the shuttle bus from the train station rather than a taxi. It costs way less and drops you right at the entrance. Just check the schedule ahead of time so you don't wait around too long.
Grab a map at the entrance. I missed one and ended up wandering around a bit aimlessly, which wasted some time. It really helps to know where you're going!
The audio guide is a must! It makes the experience so much richer and explains things the signs don’t. I decided against it at first and totally regretted it.
Mutianyu Great Wall of China Tower 20
Forbidden City
The Venetian
Shanghai Science and Technology Museum
Check out the special exhibits, they're sometimes included in your ticket, and they can be so cool! I accidentally missed one that sounded amazing.
I recommend downloading a translation app, some displays could be hard to understand without English explanations. It made my experience way better!
Bring a packed lunch or snacks! The museum food is pretty pricey and not the best. I found a nice spot in the gardens to enjoy my lunch.
Tian Tan Buddha
Ruins of St. Paul
Watch out for the weather; it can change fast! I went on a sunny day but got caught in a downpour later on. Bring an umbrella just in case!
I suggest exploring the side streets around the Ruins. You’ll find cheap street food and hidden cafes where you can relax after all the sightseeing.
If you want a unique view, climb to the top of one of the nearby hotels or walking bridges. Trust me, the skyline views of Macau are stunning!
Bring water and snacks with you. There are some shops nearby, but they can be pricey. My advice is to stock up first!
Juyong Pass
Po Lin Monastery
Grab a vegetarian meal at the monastery's restaurant; it's super affordable and delicious! Don't miss their famous buns - I still dream about them!
I think early mornings around 9 AM are the best! The crowds are way less intense and the air is cooler for that hill walk up to the Giant Buddha.
My advice is to wear comfy shoes; there's a lot of walking, and the paths can get slippery. I regretted my flip-flops - not ideal at all!
If you plan on staying for the sunset, take your time exploring before 4 PM. The golden hour view from the top is just magical! I wish I had planned better.
