Berlin Zoo
Try to visit on a weekday early morning around 9 AM to avoid the crowds. The animals are also more active, and you can have a better experience taking photos.
Pack a light lunch or snacks! The food inside can be pricey and not that great. Find a nice spot for a picnic instead.
Check for the feeding times of the animals you want to see; some are only during certain hours and they're fun to catch!
I recommend downloading the zoo’s app before you visit. It has maps and schedules, which really helped me navigate the exhibits and plan my route.
Hellabrunn
Check the feeding schedule for the animals. I missed the penguin feeding and heard it was super fun! Plan around those times.
I suggest getting there by October if you can. The weather's nice and it's less crowded! I visited in summer and it felt pretty packed.
Make sure to bring some snacks and water, because food inside can be pricey. I ended up spending more than I planned on lunch.
Zoopark
Hagenbeck Zoo
Get there by 9 AM when it opens. It’s way less crowded and you’ll get to see the animals more lively and active, trust me!
Bring a water bottle with you. There are places to refill it and you'll save a lot instead of buying overpriced drinks inside the zoo.
Don’t waste your money on the parking if you can. Use public transport, it’s easy and cheaper - I took the subway and it was super convenient!
I found that the animal talks are great! Check the schedule and plan your itinerary around them. Missing the lion talk was a bummer for me.
Hamburg Zoo
Cologne Zoological Garden
I think a good time to visit is around 10 AM; you’ll enjoy the quieter morning hours before the crowds roll in, especially on weekends.
My advice is to bring your own snacks and drinks. The cafes can be pricey and there are great spots to picnic around the park.
Frankfurt Zoo
Dresden Zoo
Plan your route based on the animal map you get at the entrance. I missed a few cool exhibits because I wandered aimlessly for too long!
