Pack some snacks and plenty of water for your hikes; lots of trails don’t have shops nearby. Trust me, I learned that the hard way on the way to the beautiful Damouchari beach!

If you're keen on hiking, rent a tent and camp near the trails. It’s much cheaper than hotels and you'll wake up surrounded by nature. I wish I had done this instead of staying in a pricey Airbnb!
Check out the “Milies to Tsagarada” trail—it’s stunning and definitely worth the time. I thought it might take forever, but it was an unforgettable experience, and you can stop at little villages along the way!
Try to visit the local markets in Tsagarada on a Saturday morning; you can find fresh produce and handmade goods that are way cheaper and tastier than in tourist shops. I regret missing it!
Mount Athos

If you're planning to hike, bring enough snacks and water from the start. There are few places to buy food along the trails, and I found myself running low on energy at one point. It's a life saver!

My advice is to download offline maps before you go. Cell service is spotty in many areas, and you definitely don’t want to get lost while hiking around the monasteries!
The Menalon Trail

My advice is to download offline maps before you head out. Cell service can be spotty, and I got turned around a couple of times. Having a map on my phone made all the difference!
Mount Olympus

Download a good offline map or hiking app. Cell service can be spotty, and a reliable map helped me stay on track and avoid getting lost.

Bring plenty of water. I thought I could refill at various spots, but those can be scarce—definitely don’t underestimate how much you’ll need

Pack lunch or snacks before you go. There are limited food options on the mountain, and you can enjoy a beautiful picnic instead of overpriced snacks.

Make sure to start your hike early around 7 AM. The weather gets pretty hot later and you’ll enjoy the cooler temperatures and fewer crowds in the morning.

I think it’s smart to wear good hiking shoes. I didn’t, and let’s just say blisters were my unwanted companions for the trip.
