Check the weather forecast before you go. I went on a cloudy day, and it wasn't as picturesque as I'd hoped. If it's sunny, the scenery is way more stunning!

Watch out for sneaker waves! I thought I could just get a quick shot near the shoreline, but I got soaked. Stay at a safe distance from the water, trust me!

Plan to visit around sunset, around 7-9 PM depending on the time of year. The golden hour makes the basalt columns and waves look magical in photos.

Plan on spending a bit of time drifting between the hot pools and colder areas. I think this makes for a better experience instead of just lounging in the heat.

Make sure to bring your own towel and flip-flops! Renting them there can cost you a pretty penny, and nothing is worse than cold feet on a hot day

If you're looking for food, the cafe has some nice options, but I recommend bringing your own snacks. The prices can be a bit steep and a packed lunch felt like a treat!

Check the weather before you go! The area can be super windy and chilly, so having a windbreaker to throw on after your dip will save your day. I learned that the hard way!

Bring snacks and water with you! There are no facilities nearby, so I wished I had packed a picnic to enjoy while taking in the views.

Wear sturdy footwear! The black sand can be uneven and the ice can be slippery. I slipped on the ice and learned my lesson the hard way.

My advice is to wear sturdy shoes! The terrain can be rocky and uneven, so flip-flops just won’t cut it. I learned that the hard way when I struggled over the pebbles.

You might want to pack a light lunch and some snacks... The nearest restaurant is a bit of a drive away, and sitting by the beach with your own food feels more special anyway

I suggest bringing your own towels and snacks—there's a small cafe, but it's more expensive than I expected! Also, the free parking spots fill up quick, so arrive before 10 AM to snag a good one.

My advice is to bring snacks and water, especially if you plan on hanging out for a while. There's nothing nearby, and you don't want to waste time making a run for supplies!

I suggest you wear sturdy shoes! The walk to the plane is a bit longer than it looks, and flip-flops won’t cut it. I wore my sneakers, and they made the trek way easier

Don't forget to bring cash for the entrance fee! I almost forgot and had to scramble to find an ATM. Also, a good pair of walking shoes will make exploring the dunes and Black Mountains way more enjoyable
