I think it's best to use sunscreen, even if it feels cloudy. I got a bit burned on my shoulders, and it was no fun walking around after.

My advice is to start your hike early, around 8 am. It gets hot quick, and you'll enjoy a quieter trail before the crowds show up.

I recommend bringing plenty of water and some snacks. The summit is awesome, but it's a bit of a workout! I ran out of water on the way up, and it was tough without it.

If you're planning to grab a bite, try the local street food nearby. It's cheap and delicious! I had the best tacos right before the hike. Trust me, way better than the overpriced snacks you’ll find at the entrance
Los Dinamos

Bring cash! Some spots don’t accept cards, and you might miss out on snacks or entry fees if you don’t have enough on hand

I suggest getting there by 8 AM to enjoy the trails before it gets crowded and the sun becomes too harsh. Early morning is stunning!

Pack a picnic! It's such a beautiful area, and having lunch surrounded by nature is a fantastic experience.

check the weather beforehand. i got caught in a sudden downpour, and it dampened the fun. a quick look will save you from getting soaked!
Cumbres De Ajusco

wear sturdy shoes! i wore regular sneakers and regretted it halfway through the hike. the trails can get rocky and slippery!

Check the weather before you go. It can change fast up there. I went when it was sunny but got caught in a sudden rainstorm—totally soaked!

Bring snacks and plenty of water. I thought I could buy something up there, but it's pretty bare of shops, so pack your own goodies.
I suggest downloading offline maps beforehand. Cell service can be hit or miss, and having a map saved helped me find the best trails easily.
Nevado De Toluca

I recommend wearing good hiking boots. I made the mistake of wearing regular shoes, and let me tell you, it was a struggle on the rocky parts of the trail. Trust me, your feet will thank you.

I think bringing snacks and plenty of water is a must! The trails can be longer than you expect, and there aren't many places to buy stuff once you're up there.

Don't forget your camera! The views from the summit are unbelievable, but I suggest taking a break halfway to enjoy the scenery and avoid burnout.
Desierto De Los Leones

I suggest packing a light lunch and snacks because there aren’t many places to grab food on your hike. Plus, it’s nice to take a break and enjoy a picnic in nature!
Bring some cash! I went to buy a hot chocolate at a little stand and they only accept cash. Nothing fancy, but it’s nice to treat yourself after a long walk!
Iztaccihuatl
Chipinque
Paso De Cortes
Copper Canyon

Definitely check out some local markets, but don’t just go for the big ones – the smaller stalls often have unique crafts at better prices. I found some great stuff off the beaten path
My advice is to grab your tickets in advance online. I waited in line for ages when I could've easily done it from my phone a couple of days before.

If you're planning to hike, bring plenty of water and snacks. I made the mistake of underestimating how much I’d need. It's a lot of up and down!
Los Tuxtlas Biosphere Reserve
if you're into trekking, hit the trails early around 7 am. the weather is cooler, and you’ll avoid the midday heat that can surprise you. i wish i had started earlier!
