Piha Beach
Parking can be a nightmare during peak hours. I suggest getting there before 10 am. Plus, you'll get the best sun for your beach day!
Don’t forget to bring some cash for the local food trucks. The fish and chips are a must-try, and it’s way cheaper than the sit-down places nearby
Explore the nearby rock pools at low tide. It's stunning, and you'll find some cool sea creatures! I missed out because I didn’t check the tide times.
Hotwater Springs - Low Tide
Moeraki Boulders Beach
I recommend visiting really early in the morning, around 8 AM, when the tide is low. You'll have a whole beach to yourself and the light makes the boulders look amazing for photos!
My advice is to bring some snacks and drinks. There aren't many shops nearby, and you'll want to relax without worrying about finding a cafe.
If you can, wear comfy shoes. The path to the boulders can get a bit muddy, especially after rain. Plus, you'll want to explore without issues
Maunganui Beach
Pilot Bay Beach
I recommend hitting the beach in the morning around 9 AM before it gets too crowded. You’ll have the best spots to chill and take some awesome photos without a sea of people in the backgroud.
Sumner Beach
Tahunanui Beach
Castlepoint Beach
Bring your own food and drinks to save some cash! The nearby shops can be pricey, and there's nothing like having a picnic on the beach. I wish I had packed a cooler!
Arataki Beach
Shipwreck Bay
My advice is to bring your own snacks and drinks; there's not a lot around and it can save you some serious cash. I got caught out and ended up paying double for a bottle of water!
If you're planning on surfing, I recommend hitting the waves early in the morning, like around 7 AM, when the winds are calm and the water's glassy. Trust me, it makes a world of difference
