Ponta da Piedade

Bring your camera but also a good phone charger. You’ll be snapping photos non-stop, and the battery drain is real. A portable charger works wonders!

Check the tide times before you go. Exploring the caves and grottos is way more fun when the water is low. I ended up missing some because I didn't plan ahead.

Try to visit around 5 PM, just before sunset. The golden hour makes the rocks glow, and it’s less crowded then. It was the best part of my trip!

If you're planning to hike the trails, definitely wear comfy shoes. The paths can get rocky, and trust me, you don't want to be sliding around. I found that out the hard way!
Ponta de Sao Lourenco

Wear good hiking shoes! I saw a lot of people struggling in flip-flops, and I really wouldn't recommend it. Good grip is key since some paths can be slippery!

Check the weather the day before. It can change quickly out there, and I got caught in a surprise rain shower. Always a bummer to hike in wet jeans!
Via Geira Roman Road

I recommend downloading a good offline map. Cell service can be spotty in some areas, and you don't want to get lost in those beautiful woods.

Make sure to wear sturdy hiking boots! The trail can be uneven and muddy in some spots. I learned the hard way when my sneakers got soaked.

Don't skip the little detours to explore Roman ruins along the road. They are fascinating and make for great photo ops!

If you're visiting with kids, consider bringing some fun hiking gear like walking sticks or binoculars to keep them engaged and active.
Pic do Ariero Madeira

I recommend bringing your own snacks and tons of water; prices at the shops nearby can be a bit high, and it’s nice to snack while enjoying the view!

I suggest starting the hike early, around 7 AM, to avoid the crowds and catch that stunning sunrise. It’s totally worth it!
Covao dos Conchos

If you can, visit on a weekday. The weekend crowds can be overwhelming, and you'll have more peace to soak in the stunning views

Definitely pack some snacks and plenty of water! There are limited places to grab food nearby, and trust me, you’ll want to recharge after that hike.

Watch out for the trail signs; I took a wrong turn and added extra miles to my hike. A good GPS app or offline maps can save you time.
Vale do Zezere

Bring a refillable water bottle—there are several fountains along the trails. Investing in a good snack stash can save you money instead of stopping at shops.

If you’re into photography go at sunrise around 7 AM. The light is magical and there are hardly any people around. You’ll get some amazing shots!

I recommend taking the lesser-known trails; they’re often less crowded and offer stunning views. I stumbled upon a hidden spot perfect for a picnic!
Seven Hanging Valleys Trail
Serra do Topo

If you're into stunning views, I suggest hitting the trail early around 7 AM. The sunrise is breathtaking and you’ll avoid the crowds and heat. Trust me, the photos are worth it.

My advice is to bring a packed lunch. There are few conveniences around, and eating on the trail with a view is way better than hunting for places. Plus, it saves money too!
Santuario da Peninha Trail

Definitely wear good hiking shoes! I underestimated the rocky parts and ended up with sore feet. The views are incredible but comfort matters especially on the steeper sections.
