Mirissa Beach
If you're into surfing, try to hit the waves early in the morning around 7 AM. The surf is way calmer, plus you'll get the beach to yourself before the crowds roll in. It's the best time for beginners!
I suggest bringing cash for the beach shacks and local vendors. Some of them don’t take cards and you might miss out on some delicious food if you're not prepared. Plus, it's cheaper with cash!
Arugam Bay Beach
I recommend renting a surfboard from one of the local vendors instead of big surf shops. It’s way cheaper and you can often negotiate the price. I got mine for just $5 a day!
Watch for the monkeys! They can be cheeky and snatch your snacks right off your towel. I lost a whole banana while I wasn't watching! Keep your food close!
Try to eat at local places rather than touristy restaurants on the main road. The hidden gems offer much tastier meals at half the price. I loved a little shack called 'Mama's Kitchen'
Unawatuna Beach
I recommend visiting Unawatuna Beach in the morning around 8 AM when it's less crowded and the water is clear. It’s a perfect time for swimming and snorkeling without the hustle of the afternoon sun.
Don’t miss the sunset, but be prepared for a crowd. Grab a spot at the eastern end of the beach around 6 PM for the best view, and bring a drink to enjoy the vibe!
Hikkaduwa Beach
I suggest checking the surf conditions before you go, especially in December to March for the best waves. It can save you a lot of time and prevent disappointment if you're planning to surf.
Waterfall Trekking in Kitulgala
Weligama Beach
If you’re looking to save some cash, eat at the local shacks instead of the fancy restaurants. The food is way better and way cheaper. Trust me, you won’t regret it!
Midigama Beach
My advice is to hit the waves around 6 am when the tide is just right. Perfect for beginners. I wish I’d done that instead of waiting till noon when it got way too crowded!
Elephant Rock Wave Surfing
Pottuvil Point
I recommend hitting the beach around 7 AM for the best waves and fewer crowds... Trust me the early sunrise is worth it... You'll have a more peaceful vibe to start your day
