Mirissa Beach

My advice is to avoid the first few beach bars you see when you arrive. They tend to be pricier, so just walk a bit further down the beach for more affordable options with awesome vibes!

I think renting a scooter is the way to go if you want to see more of Mirissa. It's cheap and you can easily visit nearby beaches or go whale watching. Just keep an eye on your fuel though!

Make sure to explore the nearby coconut tree hill for that perfect sunset photo. It's a bit of a hike, but trust me, the views are worth it! Just be careful of the slippery rocks!

If you're into surfing, try to hit the waves early in the morning around 7 AM. The surf is way calmer, plus you'll get the beach to yourself before the crowds roll in. It's the best time for beginners!
Arugam Bay Beach

Don't miss the sunrise! Head to the beach by 5:30 AM. It's breathtaking and you'll have the sand mostly to yourself before the crowds pile in.

I recommend renting a surfboard from one of the local vendors instead of big surf shops. It’s way cheaper and you can often negotiate the price. I got mine for just $5 a day!

Watch for the monkeys! They can be cheeky and snatch your snacks right off your towel. I lost a whole banana while I wasn't watching! Keep your food close!

Try to eat at local places rather than touristy restaurants on the main road. The hidden gems offer much tastier meals at half the price. I loved a little shack called 'Mama's Kitchen'
Unawatuna Beach

If you're planning to surf, check out the local surf schools instead of the big-name rentals. They often offer great deals and more personalized instruction!

Be mindful of where you eat! Some beach shacks are overpriced. I suggest trying out the local rice and curry stalls; they are delicious and way cheaper than the touristy restaurants.
I recommend visiting Unawatuna Beach in the morning around 8 AM when it's less crowded and the water is clear. It’s a perfect time for swimming and snorkeling without the hustle of the afternoon sun.

Don’t miss the sunset, but be prepared for a crowd. Grab a spot at the eastern end of the beach around 6 PM for the best view, and bring a drink to enjoy the vibe!
Hikkaduwa Beach

I recommend bargaining for everything, whether it's transportation or souvenirs. I didn’t at first and ended up paying way too much for a tuktuk ride! It's part of the fun here

I suggest checking the surf conditions before you go, especially in December to March for the best waves. It can save you a lot of time and prevent disappointment if you're planning to surf.
Weligama Beach

I recommend hitting the beach early around 7 AM for the best waves and fewer crowds. I went later and ended up waiting ages to surf.

If you’re looking to save some cash, eat at the local shacks instead of the fancy restaurants. The food is way better and way cheaper. Trust me, you won’t regret it!
Midigama Beach

I suggest grabbing lunch at one of the beachside shacks; super affordable and way fresher than the hotels. I loved the fish curry at 'Chill House'. Just make sure you ask for the spiciness you like, haha.

My advice is to hit the waves around 6 am when the tide is just right. Perfect for beginners. I wish I’d done that instead of waiting till noon when it got way too crowded!
Elephant Rock Wave Surfing

I recommend bringing some snacks and drinks because there aren’t many nearby shops which can save you a bit of cash. I spent way too much on overpriced drinks!
Pottuvil Point
I recommend hitting the beach around 7 AM for the best waves and fewer crowds... Trust me the early sunrise is worth it... You'll have a more peaceful vibe to start your day
