Philadelphia Penitentiary

If you can, try to visit on a weekday rather than the weekend. It was way less crowded, and the guides had more time to answer questions and chat.

Look for discount tickets online before going. I stumbled upon a deal on a website that saved me some cash. Every little bit helps!

Bring a fully charged phone or camera! The place is super photogenic and I wished I had captured more moments but my battery died too soon.
Check the weather! I assumed it would be mild but ended up caught in a storm. Plan ahead and dress for the weather to enjoy your visit fully.
Bodie Ghost Town

Check the weather ahead of time! It gets windy and chilly so dressing in layers will keep you comfy while you wander

I suggest visiting during the early morning, around 8 AM, to avoid the crowds and catch the best light for photos. The sun rises beautifully here!

Bring some snacks as food options are limited and can get pricey... I wish I'd packed a picnic to enjoy while exploring the town

Consider a guided tour if you're really into the history. I went solo and missed out on some fascinating stories that a guide would have shared.
Central Railroad of New Jersey Terminal

I suggest grabbing a coffee at the cute little café inside before you explore. It really helps set the mood and gives you a nice little boost. Plus sitting in that historic setting is pretty cool.

My advice is to check out the little gift shop before you leave. They have some unique memorabilia that you won't find anywhere else. I should've bought a few souvenirs, but I didn’t realize until I was already out the door!
Michigan Central Station

From what I experienced, wear comfortable shoes! The place is gigantic and exploring all the nooks and crannies can be tiring but totally worth it.
Roosevelt Island Smallpox Hospital

Bring some snacks and water. There aren't any nearby stores, so you'll want to be prepared. I had a bit of a hike back with no food and was starving.

I recommend visiting during the late afternoon, around 4 PM, for the best lighting for photos and to avoid the crowds. It felt way more serene and spooky as the sun was setting!
