Old Faithful

Dress in layers! The weather can change quickly, and it was freezing in the morning but warm by noon. A light jacket saved the day for me!

If you want to save time on food, bring snacks. The cafeteria can get super crowded, and eating outside is a lot more pleasant. Plus, take in those views!

Don’t forget your camera! The eruptions are amazing, and the surrounding area is stunning. I regretted missing a few pics while I was too busy just watching!

Get there about 30 minutes before an eruption. You can catch the little geysers like Castle Geyser while you wait. It's a nice way to avoid the crowd right when Old Faithful blows!
Upper Geyser Basin
I recommend arriving right at 8 AM when the park opens. It's way less crowded and you can enjoy the geysers without feeling rushed.

Pack snacks and water because the lodge food options can be overpriced and crowded during peak hours. I wish I had brought my own picnic.

Don’t miss the timed eruptions like Old Faithful! Use the park's app to check eruption predictions for the best experience.

I suggest hitting the shorter walks first, then tackling the longer trails later. This way, you'll have energy for the stunning views without burning out early.
Thumb Geyser

Wear sturdy shoes! The trails can get a bit muddy or slippery, so you definitely want to be comfortable while exploring.

Check the geyser's eruption schedule on the National Park Service website before you go. It saves you time waiting around, and you’re more likely to catch it in action!
Norris Geyser Basin

I recommend wearing sturdy shoes. The trails can be a bit rough and uneven. I slipped once and learned my lesson. Trust me you'll enjoy exploring more if you're comfortable
Soda Springs Geyser

I suggest bringing some snacks and drinks. There aren’t many food options around unless you drive a bit. I thought I could grab a bite nearby, but I ended up munching on granola bars while waiting for the geyser, which was kinda lame

Get to Soda Springs Geyser well before noon if you can! It gets pretty crowded, and you don't wanna miss your chance to snap a great pic of the eruption without loads of people in the background... Trust me, the early morning light is perfect!
Black Sand Basin

My advice is to check the geyser prediction timetable before you go. I missed Old Faithful's eruption by just 10 minutes because I didn't plan ahead. It’s a bummer to wait for it if you don’t time your visit right!

I suggest bringing a reusable water bottle. The prices at the visitor center can be super high, and you'll want to stay hydrated while walking around. Plus, the scenery is beautiful, so you'll want to spend as much time outside as possible
Castle Geyser
My advice is to pack some snacks and water. The area can be a bit remote, and once you get there, you might want to hang out and enjoy the view longer, so having that stuff on hand saves you time and money later.
