Central Park
Check out the food carts instead of dining in pricey restaurants nearby. I got a delicious pretzel and a soda for under $10, whereas the sit-down places were double that!
Bryant Park
If you're on a budget, grab some fresh food from the food kiosks rather than dining out. The variety is great, and you can enjoy a picnic vibe in the park.
I recommend visiting on a weekday around 10 AM. It’s less crowded then, and you can snag a good spot on the lawn or grab a sun lounger.
Millennium Park
Don't skip the Crown Fountain – it’s such a unique art installation! I thought it was just a fountain, but it's a whole interactive experience. Plus, kids love it!
Bring some snacks and drinks. The park is beautiful but food prices nearby can be a bit steep. I packed a little picnic and it made for a perfect afternoon.
I suggest visiting on a weekday if you can swing it. The crowds on weekends can get pretty insane, especially near the Bean. I went on a Tuesday and it was so much less hectic.
Balboa Park
Try to visit on a weekday if you can. It’s way less crowded, and you’ll have a better time wandering around without bumping into too many folks.
Don't miss the Botanical Building, it's beautiful and totally free! Perfect for some great pics and a little peaceful escape from the busyness
Grand Canyon National Park
My advice is to download a trail map off the park website before you go. The signs are helpful, but they don't always show you all the trails, and a map can help you discover hidden gems.
I suggest bringing your own snacks and water. The food at the park is a bit pricey, and packing a picnic can save a bunch and let you enjoy the views longer
If you're thinking about a guided tour check for discounts online ahead of time. I found one that was 20% off just by searching!
Niagara Falls State Park
Don’t skip the Cave of the Winds tour! Just be prepared to get wet, but it’s totally worth it! I wish I had worn my old shoes instead of my new ones!
Battery Park
There's a cool little food stand near the pier. I suggest grabbing a pretzel or hot dog there – way cheaper than the sit-down places nearby and you'll be eating like a New Yorker!
Check out the Battery Park Conservancy's visitor center for free maps and info—super helpful! I didn't, and I spent extra time wandering around trying to find stuff.
Haulover Park
If you're into fishing, bring your gear! I spotted many people catching fish right from the shore, so it's a fun option if you have the time.
I highly recommend arriving before 10 AM to snag a good parking spot and get that morning beach vibe. It fills up fast trust me!
My advice is to pack your own snacks. The food options are a bit pricey, and you can save a ton just by bringing your own cooler.
Griffith Park
Garden of the Gods Visitor & Nature Center
My advice is to pack a picnic. There are some great spots to eat by the rocks and it saves you from overpriced snacks.
I think visiting early, like around 8 AM, is the best way to avoid crowds and catch a sunrise. It's stunning!
I suggest downloading a map of the park before you go. The signage isn't the best, and you don't wanna waste time getting lost.
Be sure to wear good walking shoes! Some trails are rocky and can get slippery, so save yourself the trouble.
