Watch out for altitude sickness. It hit me hard right when I arrived; I felt dizzy and had headaches. Hydrate before visiting and take it slow to let your body adjust!

Bring a good camera or smartphone! The scenery is beyond stunning, and you'll want to capture the unique geothermal features. Just don’t forget to dress warm, it’s cold up there!

Get there before 7 AM! The early morning light makes the steam from the geysers look magical, and it’s less crowded. I went around 8 AM and it was packed already.

If you're on a budget, compare prices for boat trips in advance. I found that some tours were way better priced than others, and the experience was just as fantastic.

Bring a waterproof phone case. You’ll want to snap pics of those stunning caves, but things can get a bit splashy on the boat. Trust me, you'll want to keep your phone safe.

Pack a light lunch and some water. Once you get to the Marble Caves, there aren’t many places to grab food, so it’s nice to have a picnic by the water!

My advice is to wear good hiking shoes. Some trails can be slippery, and I almost took a nasty spill without the right footwear.

user avatar
Dorothy March 13, 2025

I recommend packing some snacks and water. The trails can be longer than you expect, and food options in the park are limited and pricey

Nathan March 7, 2025

If you can, try to visit on a weekday! The crowds on weekends can be overwhelming, and you'll enjoy the peace and quiet way more.

Bring cash! The entry fee is not expensive, but credit cards aren’t accepted at all spots, and you don’t wanna get caught out.

I suggest bringing cash; not every place accepts cards, and you don't want to miss out on that delicious empanada right at the trailhead!

user avatar
Jack February 3, 2025

If you're planning to hike, I recommend looking for lesser-known trails. You can save time and have a more peaceful experience away from the main crowds.

I think it's a great idea to wear layers since the weather can change super quick. You might be sweating one minute and freezing the next. I was caught off guard!

I recommend checking the weather before heading out; it can change pretty fast up there! I got soaked because I underestimated it, and it made the trails slippery. Waterproof gear is a must!

Dorothy November 13, 2024

Pack your own food! The park has some spots for lunch, but prices can be steep. I had a picnic by the river that was way more enjoyable than the overpriced sandwiches in the area.

Bring cash! Not all places, including local vendors, accept cards. I ended up scrambling around for an ATM just to grab some snacks. Better safe than sorry!

I suggest you wear sturdy shoes. The hike to Ventisquero Colgante can be muddy and slippery, and trust me, slipping can ruin the moment. Also, it’s way more enjoyable when you’re comfy.

Tyler November 24, 2024

Bring a packed lunch! There are no food vendors nearby, and the views at the picnic spots are amazing. I regretted not taking my own snacks, ended up paying way too much at the nearest town.
