Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilizations
If you want to skip the overpriced café, pack a light lunch. There are great picnic spots nearby with a lovely view of the water.
take your time in the temporary exhibitions; they're often the highlight! i spent an extra hour there and it was so worth it.
Plan to visit on a weekday if you can. The weekends can get super crowded, which means longer lines and less time to explore.
Lascaris Palace
I suggest checking out the audio guide option when you arrive; it's super informative and gives you a deeper understanding of the palace without spending too much time reading displays.
I recommend wearing comfortable shoes; the floors can be quite uneven in places, and I found myself wishing I had better footwear toward the end!
Marseille History Museum
My advice is to plan at least 2-3 hours for your visit. Trust me, there's a lot to take in, and rushing through it is no fun. Plus, the views from the museum are fantastic!
If you're into photography, don’t forget to hit up the rooftop terrace. The views of Marseille are stunning, and it’s a great spot to take pics without all the crowd
Massena Museum
I recommend bringing a small picnic to enjoy in the gardens after your visit. There are some lovely spots to relax, and it saves you money on overpriced snacks nearby!
My advice is to check their special exhibitions first! Sometimes they have cool temporary shows that the regular admission doesn't highlight but are totally worth seeing.
I suggest visiting on a Tuesday or Thursday - it's way less crowded and you'll have more space to explore the exhibits. Plus, you'll get better photos without random strangers in them!
Museum of the History of Maritime
I think you'll want to check out the outdoor exhibits too! I almost missed them while rushing inside, and they really added to my experience. Just be sure to wear comfy shoes!
Chagall Museum in Nice
If you can, go on a Wednesday afternoon. The museum is less busy, and you can really take your time to soak in Chagall's vibrant works.
My advice is to check out the museum café. It’s not super cheap, but I found the view and the ambiance worth the cost.
Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art
Matisse Museum
Don't skip the museum shop! They have lovely art prints and souvenirs that are reasonably priced, way better than the overpriced stuff in tourist traps around Nice.
I suggest checking out their website beforehand for any temporary exhibitions or events. I totally missed a fascinating modern art showcase when I visited, and it would have added so much to my experience!
Castres Museum
Don’t bother buying souvenirs at the museum shop; they're kinda overpriced. Instead, stroll through the nearby market for unique and cheaper finds.
Museum of Fine Arts
I suggest getting your tickets online before you go. It saved me a lot of time in line, and the ticket prices are pretty reasonable too. Plus, you won't have to worry about last-minute cash issues.
