Lawang Sewu
Wear comfy shoes! You’ll be walking a lot, and the floors can be a bit uneven. I wish I had worn my sneakers instead of sandals – my feet were sore after!
Keep your eyes peeled for the details in the architecture. Some parts are easy to miss if you're rushing. I think taking time to explore is what makes visiting Lawang Sewu special.
Grand Mosque of Central Java
don't forget to explore the surrounding park! i missed it and heard it’s a nice place to relax and take photos... you might need to save some time for it later
I suggest wearing comfortable shoes. You’ll do a fair bit of walking around the mosque and its gardens, and flip-flops are a little slippery on the tiles.
My advice is to check out the museum that's part of the mosque complex. I almost skipped it, but it was super enlightening about the local culture and history.
The Ambarawa Railway Museum
Make sure to bring cash, especially for the train rides. I was stuck because I assumed they took cards, but it was cash only so plan ahead.
Get there right when the museum opens around 8 AM to beat the crowds. I went later, and it got real busy. You'll have more time to enjoy the exhibits without feeling rushed.
Think about getting some local food from the nearby stalls after your visit. I found a great little spot, and it was such a tasty and budget-friendly option!
