Dzhigokudani Snow Monkey Park
I recommend taking the early morning train to Yudanaka Station. It gives you a head start before the crowds show up, especially if you arrive around 9 AM. Trust me, it makes a difference!
My advice is to wear layered clothing when you visit. The weather can change quickly, and you don’t want to end up freezing because you thought it was gonna be warm.
My advice is to bring a small backpack for your gear. I found it super convienent to have everything in one place and saved time not having to rummage through my pockets.
Mount Kita
Mount Chogatake
I think it's a good idea to download an offline map before you go. The signal can be spotty once you're up in the mountains, and I got lost a bit trying to find my way back!
My advice is to pack your own lunch and snacks. The restaurants near the base can be pricey and they're not that great. I saved a bunch of yen just by bringing my own food!
Shomyo Falls
Hoo Sanzan Mountains
I suggest packing some snacks if you're planning to hike all day. The prices at the local shops can be a bit high and trust me a granola bar on the trail is way more satisfying.
