I recommend exploring the gardens around the castle; they’re super beautiful, especially in spring when all the flowers bloom. It's a nice break from the castle itself!
My advice is to grab a map at the entrance. It really helped me figure out the best routes in the castle and I avoided wandering around aimlessly.
Yasaka-jinja
Be aware of the festival schedule, especially in July. It could be super crowded, and some parts of the shrine get blocked off for the celebrations.
Check out the little shops nearby for some local snacks. I found a great street vendor selling yummy matcha ice cream—really cheap and super tasty.
I recommend going in the early morning, like around 7 AM. It's so peaceful and less crowded, plus the soft light for photos is amazing!
Kyoto Railway Museum
Take your time in the outdoor area—there are some beautiful displays and photo ops. I rushed through it but ended up wishing I had stayed longer to appreciate everything!
Try visiting on a weekday, preferably Tuesday or Wednesday, to avoid the bigger crowds. I found it way more enjoyable with less waiting time for exhibits!
