Phoenix Zoo

Check out the schedule for animal feedings and talks. I almost missed a great giraffe feeding that was super fun and educational!

Consider getting a membership if you’re local or think you’ll visit more than twice in a year; it pays for itself quickly and includes perks like free parking!

Plan your visit on a weekday if possible; weekends can get super crowded! Trust me it makes a huge difference in how relaxed your experience will be.

Bring a refillable water bottle! There are water stations throughout the zoo, and you'll want to stay hydrated while walking around.
Butterfly Wonderland

I recommend checking out the butterfly emerging area; it’s a real treat to see the little guys hatching. Definitely beats just looking at them

My advice is to bring a camera with a good zoom. The butterflies are super colorful, but they don't always land where you want. I wish I had brought mine because the shots would’ve been epic!
Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch

If you can, try to go on a weekday. It was way less crowded when I went on a Tuesday, and you get to interact more with the animals without feeling rushed.
Don’t miss the gift shop on your way out! I almost did, but they have some really cute ostrich-themed souvenirs that aren't overpriced. Grab a little something to remember the experience!

Make sure to bring some cash for feeding the animals! I thought I could pay by card, but they only took cash for feed, which was a bit annoying. Plus, the feed is super fun for the kids!

Wear sunscreen! I got a little too excited and forgot to reapply, and the open areas can get pretty hot. A hat would be a lifesaver too, especially if you visit around 11 AM.
