Pier 39
Santa Monica Pier
Don't forget to explore the beach! The sand is wonderful for a leisurely stroll and the ocean view is a perfect backdrop for your photos.
I recommend timing your visit around sunset. The views from the pier are absolutely breathtaking, and it’s a great time to grab some photos.
I suggest visiting on a weekday if you can. The weekend crowds are no joke, and it’s way more chill to enjoy the pier without all the hustle.
Golden Gate Bridge
Don’t forget to bring a jacket! It gets really windy on the bridge, and even if it’s warm in the city, it can be chilly up there.
I suggest visiting during the week if you can. The weekends get super crowded, and I found it much more enjoyable with fewer people around.
Downtown Santa Monica
Plan and stick around for the Wednesday farmers’ market on Arizona Avenue. There are tons of local produce and really affordable snacks - I even got some fresh pastries that were to die for.
If you're looking to save some bucks, grab a coffee at one of the local cafes instead of over at Starbucks. I found a cute little spot named Demitasse that had great prices and awesome brews!
for a stunning view, head to the third-level rooftop of the santa monica place mall during sunset. it's a bit of a hidden gem and really less crowded than the pier. don't forget your camera!
Alcatraz
i recommend booking your tickets online in advance as the lines can get super long. i saved a lot of time by skipping the ticket booth entirely!
Dress in layers! It can be chilly and foggy on the island even in summer, and the wind can be a bit brutal at times. I learned that the hard way!
Union Square
If you're planning to shop, don't forget to hit up the nearby stores on Powell Street. Many have seasonal sales, and I saved a ton on clothes! Just watch for long lines on weekends.
My advice is to grab a coffee from one of the nearby cafes instead of the chain ones. The local spots have amazing brews and it adds to the experience. Plus, it’s a great way to people-watch.
My advice is to stay away from the food trucks right at the square. They cost more and the lines are long. I found a great little dim sum place a couple of blocks away that was much better and way cheaper!
Ferry Building
I recommend checking out the local farmers market on Tuesdays and Thursdays in the plaza. It’s awesome for fresh produce and local delicacies, plus it's free to walk around!
If you’re into unique shops, definitely explore the local artisans and food vendors inside. But do keep a budget because things can get pricey fast if you go wild!
I suggest grabbing breakfast at the Blue Bottle Coffee kiosk early, like around 8 AM, before the crowds show up. Their coffee is amazing and the pastries are a must-try!
I think visiting during lunch around 12 PM is a great idea if you want to find a good spot to enjoy some snacks while taking in the views. Just be ready for a crowds!
Hollywood & Highland
Check the showtimes for the Dolby Theatre if you're interested in catching a tour. The tours usually sell out fast, and it can be a bummer if you miss out
AT&T Park
Don’t forget sunscreen, even if it looks overcast. The sun can peek out and hit you hard in the afternoon, trust me, I've learned the hard way!
Original Ghirardelli Ice Cream & Chocolate Shop
My advice is to try and snag a spot on the upper level for a great view of the bustling square below – it's a perfect place to enjoy your treat away from the crowds.
Save a few bucks by ordering the mini sundaes instead of the full size - trust me the mini is still huge! And it's perfect if you want to try a couple of different flavors.
