Muir Woods National Monument

Pack a picnic! There’s a lovely area for eating outside; it’s much cheaper than the café, and you can enjoy the scenery while you munch

If you’re planning to hike, download a map or a trail app. The trails can be confusing, and I got lost a couple of times before I figured this out.

Check out the weather before you go! It can get foggy and chilly, and I wasn’t prepared with the right layers, which made my visit less comfy than it could have been

Plan your visit on a weekday, especially if you can hit a Tuesday or Wednesday. It was way less crowded, and I felt like I had the forest all to myself!
Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve

If you can, plan your visit for a weekday morning around 8 AM. It really helps avoid the crowds and gives you the best chance to enjoy the trails in peace.

If you're especially into photography, try to catch the sunset. The light on the cliffs is just stunning, but it can get chilly fast, so bring a light jacket.

Check the tide schedules if you want to visit the beach area! I didn’t realize how quickly the tides come in and almost missed the shoreline views.

Bring snacks! There aren't many food options nearby, and the trails can make you absolutely famished. I found a granola bar helped me power through.
National Reserve Cabrillo

Don’t forget sunscreen. Even if it's cloudy that coastal sun can sneak up on you and leave ya red like a lobster. Trust me I learned the hard way.

Be aware that some trails might be a bit tricky. I recommend wearing sturdy shoes, particularly if you're planning to explore the rocky areas around the coast.
Make sure to bring a good camera! The views at the tide pools are stunning, especially during sunset around 5:30 PM. You'll want to capture that magic.
Marin Headlands

Be prepared for some steep trails! I didn't realize how challenging some of them would be. If you like hiking, bring good shoes and enjoy the stunning scenery!

Watch out for the wildlife! I saw a bunch of cute deer but one crossed the path unexpectedly. Take it slow on the roads just in case!

Definitely wear layers. The weather can change super quickly, so I suggest starting out in a light jacket and having a sweater handy. I froze once because I didn't.

If you want the best views, head to Battery Spencer around sunset. The golden light hitting the Golden Gate Bridge was totally worth it!
Lands End

If you’re looking to save some bucks, pack a picnic instead of dining out. There are plenty of nice spots to chill and enjoy the scenery with your own food.

Check out the visitor center first! They have great maps and tips that can help you decide the best trails for your energy level and interests.

I highly recommend hitting Lands End right around sunrise. The views are breathtaking and you’ll avoid the crowds that roll in later in the day. Amazing photo ops too!

I suggest downloading a trail map on your phone. Wi-Fi can be spotty, so having it ready will help you navigate without getting lost!
Sunset Cliffs Game Reserve

If you can, try to go around 7 PM for the sunset! The views are absolutely stunning, and you'll find a good spot to relax and take pictures without the huge crowds

Don't forget to bring some water and snacks, especially if you plan on walking or exploring a bit. There's not a ton of places nearby to grab a bite!
Devils Postpile National Monument

If you’re planning to hike to Rainbow Falls, bring some snacks. I was hungry halfway through and regretted not packing something tasty. Stick to trails that suit your energy level!

Check out the shuttle schedule before you go. The shuttles can save you time and hassle, especially if you're staying in Mammoth; they run regularly in summer and fall.

I highly recommend starting your day early like around 8 AM to beat the crowds and grab the best parking spots. It makes a big difference for a peaceful hike.

Don’t forget to bring layers! The weather can change quickly in the mountains. I was chilly in the morning but hot by noon, so I wish I’d layered more wisely
Point Loma Tide Pools
I highly recommend wearing sturdy shoes. The rocks can be slippery, and I saw a few people fall. Trust me, you don't want to be that person on their first trip.

If you want to save some cash, skip the parking lot fees and park a little further away in residential areas. Just be mindful of street signs so you don't get a ticket!

Bring a good camera! I think the tide pools look even better at sunrise around 6 AM. The lighting is so magical, plus you might get it all to yourself!
Point Lobos

Be sure to bring a packed lunch and some water. The food options are kinda limited and pricey in the area, plus eating with ocean views is the best!

I think you should wear sturdy shoes. Some trails can get a bit tricky, and I slipped a couple of times in my sneakers! Hiking boots are a win.
Scenic Road Walkway

I think visiting during the golden hour, around 6 or 7 pm, makes the scenery even more magical. The sunset over the water is breathtaking and perfect for photos!
