Muir Woods National Monument
Check out the weather before you go! It can get foggy and chilly, and I wasn’t prepared with the right layers, which made my visit less comfy than it could have been
Plan your visit on a weekday, especially if you can hit a Tuesday or Wednesday. It was way less crowded, and I felt like I had the forest all to myself!
Definitely book your tickets online ahead of time! I saved a lot of time skipping the long lines at the entrance, especially during peak hours.
Hold off on buying souvenirs at the park. I found way better deals in nearby towns and stores that were just a short drive away from the monument.
Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve
Check the tide schedules if you want to visit the beach area! I didn’t realize how quickly the tides come in and almost missed the shoreline views.
Bring snacks! There aren't many food options nearby, and the trails can make you absolutely famished. I found a granola bar helped me power through.
Bring a refillable water bottle. There are water fountains around, so you can save some cash and stay hydrated without buying overpriced drinks.
National Reserve Cabrillo
Be aware that some trails might be a bit tricky. I recommend wearing sturdy shoes, particularly if you're planning to explore the rocky areas around the coast.
Make sure to bring a good camera! The views at the tide pools are stunning, especially during sunset around 5:30 PM. You'll want to capture that magic.
Marin Headlands
Definitely wear layers. The weather can change super quickly, so I suggest starting out in a light jacket and having a sweater handy. I froze once because I didn't.
If you want the best views, head to Battery Spencer around sunset. The golden light hitting the Golden Gate Bridge was totally worth it!
Lands End
Check out the visitor center first! They have great maps and tips that can help you decide the best trails for your energy level and interests.
I highly recommend hitting Lands End right around sunrise. The views are breathtaking and you’ll avoid the crowds that roll in later in the day. Amazing photo ops too!
I suggest downloading a trail map on your phone. Wi-Fi can be spotty, so having it ready will help you navigate without getting lost!
Bring a good pair of walking shoes. The trails can get rocky and uneven, and you'll want to explore more without worrying about your feet.
Sunset Cliffs Game Reserve
Don't forget to bring some water and snacks, especially if you plan on walking or exploring a bit. There's not a ton of places nearby to grab a bite!
Devils Postpile National Monument
Check out the shuttle schedule before you go. The shuttles can save you time and hassle, especially if you're staying in Mammoth; they run regularly in summer and fall.
I highly recommend starting your day early like around 8 AM to beat the crowds and grab the best parking spots. It makes a big difference for a peaceful hike.
Don’t forget to bring layers! The weather can change quickly in the mountains. I was chilly in the morning but hot by noon, so I wish I’d layered more wisely
Point Lobos
Be sure to bring a packed lunch and some water. The food options are kinda limited and pricey in the area, plus eating with ocean views is the best!
I think you should wear sturdy shoes. Some trails can get a bit tricky, and I slipped a couple of times in my sneakers! Hiking boots are a win.
Point Loma Tide Pools
If you want to save some cash, skip the parking lot fees and park a little further away in residential areas. Just be mindful of street signs so you don't get a ticket!
Bring a good camera! I think the tide pools look even better at sunrise around 6 AM. The lighting is so magical, plus you might get it all to yourself!
Scenic Road Walkway
I think visiting during the golden hour, around 6 or 7 pm, makes the scenery even more magical. The sunset over the water is breathtaking and perfect for photos!
