Balboa Park
Try to visit on a weekday if you can. It’s way less crowded, and you’ll have a better time wandering around without bumping into too many folks.
Don't miss the Botanical Building, it's beautiful and totally free! Perfect for some great pics and a little peaceful escape from the busyness
Griffith Park
Venice Beach Boardwalk
Just a heads up, parking can be a nightmare! I suggest using the city parking lots rather than street parking to avoid tickets and towing headaches.
I think it’s a good idea to bring a reusable water bottle. Water fountains are available, and you’ll save money instead of buying drinks all day.
Dockweiler Beach
Bring your own beach chairs and umbrellas if you can. Rental prices can add up quickly, and it’s more comfy when you have your own stuff. I regretted not bringing mine and ended up sitting on the sand
Pack a picnic! It's a great way to save money on food and enjoy the beach atmosphere. I found a nice spot and just relaxed while munching away instead of spending a lot at nearby cafes.
Golden Gate
Parking is tough around the bridge. I suggest using public transit or rideshare apps to save stress and money. It can get pricey with parking fees!
Dress in layers! The weather changes quickly and I was freezing when I thought it’d be warm. A light jacket can make your experience way more enjoyable
Check out the visitor center to grab a free map & info about trails. I didn’t do this and ended up wandering around aimlessly for awhile.
San Diego Zoo
i highly recommend downloading the zoo app! it has maps, schedules, and info on animal exhibits to make navigating super easy.
Try to catch the pandas during the morning feeding time. I saw them later in the day and they were just napping – total bummer!
Consider bringing your own snacks and water. The food options are decent but pricey, and I regretted not packing a picnic to enjoy in the park.
Yosemite
I suggest getting a National Park pass if you're visiting multiple parks. It saves money and you get access to a ton of unique places, not just Yosemite!
Check out the ranger-led programs! They’re often free and super informative. I found out so much about the park's geology that made my visit even better.
The San Diego Zoo Safari Park
If you can, aim to arrive around 9:30 AM. That's when the gates open, and you can catch the animals while they’re active and explore the park before it gets too packed.
Definitely wear comfy shoes; you'll be doing a lot of walking! I learned the hard way when my feet hurt after just a few hours. Plus, pack a water bottle to stay hydrated since it can get hot out there.
Malibu Beach
My advice is to bring your own snacks and drinks... The beach prices can be super high! I regretted not packing a cooler when I saw a bottle of water for $5
Corona Del Mar State Beach
Check the tide schedule before you go! Low tide reveals incredible tide pools that you don't want to miss. I stumbled upon some amazing starfish and anemones when I visited at low tide.
