Bring a picnic blanket and set up on the grass! There's nothing better than chilling with some food while soaking up the sun. Just find a nice shady spot and relax. I totally missed this the first time and it would have made my day way better.

if you can, visit calhoun in the early morning around 7 am. the sunrise over the lake is incredible and you'll avoid the crowds. trust me, it's so peaceful and the perfect way to start your day.

I suggest bringing a cooler with snacks and drinks. The beach can get super crowded and it's nice to have your own stuff instead of spending money at the nearby concession stand. Plus, it saves you from standing in a long line.

If you plan to rent a kayak or paddleboard, do it before noon! I found the rental lines super long later in the day, and I ended up waiting over 30 minutes. Plus, morning paddling is so peaceful with fewer people around.

Swing by the food trucks by the lake around lunch time! I had the best taco from one of them, and they’re way cheaper than nearby sit-down places. Don’t forget to grab a to-go drink from the stand; it’ll save you a few bucks

Dress in layers, especially if you'll be out for a while. It can get chilly by the water in the afternoon breeze. I was freezing after sunbathing too long, but I wish I had brought a light jacket just in case!
