Check out the local food spots after your day on the water. I thought I’d just eat at popular places, but a local recommended a tiny outdoor café that had the best pastéis de nata ever!

Bring your own gear if you can. Renting equipment can get pricey after a while, and I found that having my own stuff made me feel more comfortable.

I recommend booking lessons in advance. The schools can get super busy, especially in summer. I made the mistake of just showing up and had to wait a bit for a spot.
