I think you should take your time in the gift shop. There are unique souvenirs that reflect the local culture, and I regret not taking them home with me.
My advice is to skip the café if you're on a budget. I found some great local bakeries nearby that offered way better food for a lot less money!
I sugggest checking out the temporary exhibitions. They were super engaging and a nice surprise compared to what I expected from a natural history museum!
