I think you should definitely get there around 10 AM to avoid the crowds. By the time I left, it was getting really busy and you don't want to miss out on the cool exhibits.

My advice is to bring a water bottle! There aren't many places to buy drinks nearby, and you'll appreciate having one while walking around the museum.
