Rolling Thunder Skating Center

If you're planning to skate, my advice is to bring your own gear if you can. Rentals are a bit overpriced and the selection can be hit or miss. I regretted not bringing my own skates.

Plan on arriving around 5 PM on weekends. It gets super busy after that and you might end up waiting for an hour. I waited long enough that I considered going home! Just a heads up.

I think the snack bar prices are a bit steep, so consider grabbing a bite to eat before you arrive. I learned the hard way that a small soda and snack can cost you an arm and a leg!
Philadelphia Penitentiary

If you can, try to visit on a weekday rather than the weekend. It was way less crowded, and the guides had more time to answer questions and chat.

Look for discount tickets online before going. I stumbled upon a deal on a website that saved me some cash. Every little bit helps!

Bring a fully charged phone or camera! The place is super photogenic and I wished I had captured more moments but my battery died too soon.
Check the weather! I assumed it would be mild but ended up caught in a storm. Plan ahead and dress for the weather to enjoy your visit fully.
FDR Skatepark

Pro tip: if you're planning to fly in, book your hotel close to FDR to save on transport. I stayed too far away, and it ate into my skate time waiting for Uber.

I suggest bringing a good pair of skate shoes. The ones I wore were too slick, and I kept slipping. Trust me, you'll have a way better time if you're comfortable on your board.

I think it's a good idea to check out the local food trucks nearby before you skate. They’re super convenient and way cheaper than restaurants in the city. My food was delicious and kept me fueled for skating!
My advice is to hit the park around 5 PM... It gets crowded later, and you'll have more space to skate and show off your skills before all the pros show up
