Market Square
Try to catch the Market Square during sunset; it transforms completely with the changing light. I had the best evening just soaking in the vibe and snapping photos!
Check out the local cafes for breakfast! I found a lovely spot serving delicious waffles at a reasonable price - way better than the overrated tourist traps.
Get to Market Square early, around 8 AM, to catch the stunning morning light and enjoy the square without the crowds. I loved taking photos without bumping into other tourists!
I think visiting in the off-peak season, like late September, gives you a much more pleasant experience. The weather was still decent, but way fewer tourists.
Brussels Cathedral
After your visit, treat yourself to some Belgian treats at a nearby café. I had the best waffles just a short walk away, which was a nice way to wrap up my day!
Check the opening hours before you go, as they can vary depending on the season. I realized too late that they close early on some days, which cut my visit short!
Make sure to grab an audio guide for a small fee; it adds so much depth to your visit. I skipped it at first and regretted missing out on the history!
Royal Palace
I recommend visiting on a weekday if possible, the crowds are way thinner and you'll have better access to those stunning views. My experience was a lot more relaxed than the weekend rush!
I think the audio guide is totally worth it. It immerses you in the rich history much more than just wandering around. I almost skipped it and would’ve regretted it big time!
Menin Gate
Try to visit around 10 AM or 4 PM to avoid the biggest crowds and catch some lovely light for pictures. Trust me, the early risers are rewarded with a more peaceful experience
Check out the Last Post ceremony at 8 PM. It's a touching tribute and truly adds depth to your visit, so plan your day around it!
If you're into history, grab a small guidebook or download an app before you go. It’ll enhance your understanding of the memorial and its significance.
Belfort
St. Bavon's Cathedral
My advice is to check out the audio guides. They are super informative and really enrich the experience. I skipped it at first, but ended up missing out on some cool stories.
If you're into photography, aim to go around golden hour – closer to sunset. The light through the stained glass is pure magic, and I kicked myself for not planning it better!
Cathedral of Our Lady of Antwerp
Consider spending some time on guided audio options. I found the info super helpful, and it really enriched my experience of the cathedral's history and the art inside.
