Plaza de La Cultura
The best time to visit Plaza de La Cultura is around 4 PM. That way you can grab a coffee from a nearby café and catch that golden hour light for amazing photos - trust me, it's worth it!
I highly recommend stopping by the cafes around the plaza for lunch. You can find delicious local food for a fraction of the price you’d pay in more touristy spots.
My advice is to bring comfy shoes. You’ll end up walking around more than you expect, especially if you want to explore the area. I didn’t and my feet were killing me!
National Museum of Costa Rica
If you're on a budget, try to time your visit during a free admission day; you can save a few bucks and still enjoy everything the museum has to offer.
National Children's Museum
I recommend checking their website for special events before you go; we ended up on a day with awesome activities for kids that we didn't expect!
I think it's worth spending some time in the science exhibits - they're really interactive and fun! Plan at least an hour here.
Jade Museum
Pre-Columbian Gold Museum
Museum of Costa Rican Art
My advice is to check out the outdoor area with the sculptures and gardens. It's a nice spot to relax, and it doesn't take much time away from the exhibits.
Cartago Municipal Museum
I really enjoyed the exhibits, but I suggest budgeting at least 1.5 to 2 hours to soak it all in—you don’t want to rush through. Also, the little gift shop has some cool local crafts; it's a nice way to support local artists!
